The HOPE Project Parent Forum has developed a curriculum with tools and strategies
designed to empower parents and caretakers to share their values in giving guidance
to their children about healthy relationships and safe behaviors. The curriculum
is useful for parents and caretakers, across lines of gender, culture, ethnicity,
family structure, education, sexuality, religious beliefs, and socioeconomic status.
Parenting can be challenging and parents need support – from each other and the
larger community. We hope that this web site can begin to offer you the support
that you need.
Things to Remember:
- You, the caregiver, are the first and most effective teacher of your children.
- Parenting is hard work and you deserve respect, support, and a voice.
- Individual parenting practices are personal & unique. There are no “right”
or “wrong” answers, only different strategies.
- Our culture is not always supportive of raising healthy children (media influences,
schools, clothing choices, internet, etc).
- Children need our love, respect, support and guidance to help them become healthy
adults.
- Strong parent-child connectedness is a powerful protection against risky behaviors
in teens.
- You need the time and support to care for yourself.
- We prefer prevention over intervention.
- As parents, you need to support each other.
